South Australia has recently refreshed its Skilled Occupation List for the 2025–26 migration program, bringing significant opportunities for both skilled workers already in Australia and those overseas. This update, effective from October 2025, means all skilled occupations are now open for nomination—though some roles have specific requirements regarding whether offshore applicants are eligible to apply.
What’s New for 2025–26?
South Australia now recognises all skilled occupations as eligible for migration under state nomination, widening the door for professionals across healthcare, IT, education, construction, trades, and more.
There are more than 400 occupations listed, covering a broad array of careers, such as engineers, nurses, teachers, tradespeople, and IT specialists.
The focus remains on sectors facing skill shortages, and particular priority is being placed on areas like health, advanced trades, and technology.
International graduates who studied in South Australia and skilled workers living and working in the state are given special consideration, as are those based in regional or outer-regional areas.
Nomination Pathways
South Australia offers several migration streams for eligible candidates:
South Australian Graduates: For international graduates from South Australian institutions meeting occupation and study requirements.
Skilled Employment in South Australia: For those already living and working in their nominated occupation in SA.
Outer Regional Skilled Employment: For skilled workers based in outer regional SA.
Offshore Applicants: Selected via SkillSelect and subject to South Australia’s current demand and priorities.
Registration and Selection Process
Applicants must lodge a Registration of Interest (ROI) before being invited to apply for state nomination. Only candidates who best align with South Australia’s skills needs and criteria will be invited—meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation.
Why These Updates Matter
The changes this year make South Australia one of the most open states for skilled migration, responding directly to critical workforce needs and providing new pathways for skilled professionals worldwide. However, places remain limited, and selection is competitive based on experience, qualifications, and sector needs.
Migrants and employers should watch for ongoing updates, as the occupation list and nomination settings continue to be refined in response to labor market needs. For tailored advice on navigating the SA occupation list and maximising nomination success, consult a qualified migration agent.
